Israel Chamber Orchestra
Israel Chamber Orchestra
The Israel Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1965 by Gary Bertini who served as its Artistic Director and Conductor for 10 years.
Gary Bertini, opening speech; PREMIERE – January 1966
The Israel Chamber Orchestra was created in order to answer two needs: To form a permanent musical stage for talented, Israeli vocalists and instrumentalists who are interested in performing this rich musical tradition and who have not found a suitable stage in Israel; and to bring music lovers the best of orchestral, vocal, and operatic chamber music – a repertoire that does not suit the character of existing musical institutions in this country.
The ensemble consists of great vocalists who have either studied in Israel or who have immigrated here, and a group of young instrumentalists – most of whom are graduates of the Samuel Rubin Israel Academy of Music, Tel-Aviv, who are dedicated to singing and playing chamber music, in the widest sense of the word.
One of the main goals of the ensemble is to consistently bring its programs to the entire country, to working and immigrant settlements, to the developing cities. Special attention will be given to performances with an educational value for teenagers, and special performances for soldiers.
The ensemble will loyally serve Israeli works of music, and these pieces will consistently be part of the programme. The Israeli performers will be invited to perform with the ensemble by honoured guests from abroad. We hope that that you will enjoy these collaborations and our future concerts.
